TIBCO NOW 2019 conference tour visual language

Stakeholders: I worked with the design team, my direct reports, my manager, the events team, registration vendor, app vendor, print vendor, the swag vendors, the web team, the content team, and the general session production vendor.

Problem: We needed a design that would evolve the 2018 theme of “Innovation at the Edge” to the 2019 theme “Innovation Everywhere” and convey the global tour aspect of the event.

Solution: This was the fourth conference whose design style I directed, but the first time we had to visually tie a theme to a previous year's theme, and the first time I got to design for a multi-country tour.

In order to tie the style back into last year’s rotated cube, I carried over the overlapping dotted hexagons and blurred color background.

To convey the “Everywhere” part of the theme, I replaced the isometric cube with a faceted sphere and arranged our three pillar colors (orange, green, and blue) to evoke the colors of earth from space.

For these large annual conferences, we need to ensure the design works both digitally and in print, so ensuring the colors work in both RGB and CMYK formats is crucial. The design must also be able to be simplified in order to create a wide range of items, from swag and clothing, to badges and lanyards. The elements need to be varied enough to be flexible and interesting, but still look and feel consistent.

In addition to the illustrative components, this year was a global event with three stops, so we incorporated visuals of the destinations into the visual language.
